Our bast fibre experience

We have run numerous research and development projects alongside farmers and universities to achieve a decortication and cleaning system that offers excellent reliability and processing capability, while being an economically viable solution in an emerging market.

We manufacture all machinery in the UK and have successfully installed numerous lines. We have the facility to run trials of bast fibres supplied by prospective customers.

Typical process stages

Stage 1: Bale opening, to allow a full-width feed into the next part of the system. We are able to offer solutions for both square and round bale types.

Stage 2: Decortication, removing as much shiv or hurd as early as possible.

Stage 3: Cleaning, further reducing the amount of shiv or hurd that is contaminating the fibre and obtaining the required condition of fibre for your follow-up processes.

Stage 4: Baling or conveying for further processing.

Shiv, hurd and dust are pneumatically conveyed to the respective collection device or filter system.

End uses we design towards

Hemp and flax fibres are used across a growing range of industrial applications, especially in nonwovens and geotextile sectors. Customers have supplied material for a wide variety of applications including insulation, nonwoven felts and spun yarns for furniture fabrics.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you have any questions, why not get in touch...

Do you supply complete lines or single machines?

Both. Many customers start with one machine, then build toward a full line concept as volumes grow.

Do you process both hemp and flax?

Yes. We work with bast fibres and can discuss the right processing route for your crop and end use.

What throughput can you achieve?

Throughput depends on crop condition, bale format and product requirements, so it is confirmed during project discussion.

Can you separate fibre and shiv?

Bast fibre processing routes typically include separation and cleaning stages. We can confirm the exact separation method during enquiry.
